Application service provider (ASP)
A provider that hosts, delivers and administers access to third-party software applications remotely to end-users through centrally managed data center facilities. Termed application service providers (ASP) or managed service providers (MSP), they enable on-demand use of cloud-hosted applications on a subscription or usage-based pricing model over the internet or dedicated networks rather than having software installed locally. This affords flexibility and offloads the resource burden for organizations utilizing the model for accessing various applications needed for their operations that are maintained by the service provider.
