Application architecture

A conceptual model outlining the structured assemblage of processes and functional components required to govern, manage and support an enterprise’s information and related technologies in alignment with its strategic goals.

From the COBIT 5 and 2019 framework viewpoint, the application architecture logically encapsulates and arranges the integrated set of capabilities, tools, data repositories and enablers vital for an organization to effectively plan, build, run and monitor its information systems. It provides a blueprint for orchestrating the people, policies, practices and automated solutions necessary to optimize information flows and technology investments for achieving business objectives.

The architecture establishes the conceptual structure for aligning IT capabilities with enterprise needs through purposeful groupings of interdependent application resources and their inter-relationships.
