Alternative routing

A capability that provides backup routing paths to complete a communication transmission when the primary destination or route is unavailable. Alternate routing designates secondary pre-defined pathways to dynamically reroute traffic flows around network failures, congestions, or maintenance activities. If the preferred line or node is unreachable, signaling traffic is automatically redirected through the alternate pre-assigned channels. This prevents service interruptions by circumventing faults until the normal route is restored.
