Administrative distance

A measurement used by routing devices to determine the optimal pathway for forwarding network traffic when there are multiple possible routes to the destination. The routing protocol analyzes path metrics such as hop count, latency, bandwidth, load, and reliability to calculate the preferred path for transmitting packets. This allows the router to intelligently select the best route based on current network conditions and service requirements.
